A family farm, growing what works on the high plains
Tried And Grown (TaG) is a small family farm in North Platte, Nebraska.
Carrying on a legacy
Farming runs in our family. We grew up around people who planted by the weather, saved what worked, and passed it along. Tried And Grown is our way of carrying that on, on a small scale and in our own way.
The high plains are not always an easy place to garden. The season is short, spring can hang on, the wind rarely lets up, and a hot spell can arrive at any time. We have learned, and are still learning, to work with it rather than against it.
Why "Tried And Grown"
The name says what we try to do. Before a variety goes in our catalog, we grow it here ourselves. If it does not hold up in a short Nebraska season, we leave it out. What is left is a short list we feel good about recommending to our neighbors and to other gardeners in short northern seasons.
Every seed we offer is open-pollinated, so you can save your own seed and keep it going.
What we grow
Alongside seeds, we grow market-garden produce for regional farmers markets, keep hens for farm eggs, and are drying herbs for teas. It is a modest operation, and we like it that way.
Grown here first
We only offer varieties we have grown on our own farm.
Seeds you can save
Open-pollinated varieties that grow true from saved seed.
